Recording the History of the High Schools and Academy
Under the leadership of Dr. Stephen Briggs, President, and Whit Whittaker, asst. to Dr. Briggs, Berry has commissioned the writing of a book to record the history of the High School and Academy.
Dr. Jennifer Dickey, the former Director of Historic Berry, was selected to author this account. She is preeminently qualified fo rthis task. As the daughter of Drs. Ouida and Garland Dickey, Jennifer grew up on Berry's campus. She graduated from Berry Academy and Berry College before pursuing her graduate degrees in Historic Preservation. She presently teaches at Kennesaw State University and continues to act as a consultant to Historic Berry. Dr. Dickey's goal is to have the History of the High Schools completed and published by Founder's Day, 2010.
The Oral History Project
Interviewing high school alumni for the Oral History of the High Schools began in earnest the first week of June, 2009 during Alumni Work Week. 40 alumni representing the decades of the 1940's through the 1980's were interviewed by Dr. Ouida Dickey and Carolyn Thompson Smith. These videoed interviews have been reviewed by the book's author, Dr. Jennifer Dickey, and have been archived at the College Library for future use. At the September meeting of the Breakfast Club, Dr. Jennifer Dickey met with us to continue the interviews.
