From Jack Pigott:

My Berry friends,

Today we have tragically lost one of our own, Ted Touchstone. Ted suffered a massive stroke on Thursday and could not recover. He passed away this afternoon. Ted was from Rome and one of the original day students at the Academy.  He was an outstanding baseball player (shortstop)and was MVP of the baseball team in 1969. You may recall that Ted earned his pilot’s license as a teenager and he was an avid flyer. Ted worked most of his adult life as a conservationist for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. He also hosted a weekly call-in talk show on one of the Rome radio stations discussing topics of wildlife, the outdoors and conservation in general.

I am shocked and devastated at this news. Ted appeared to be in perfect health – trim, athletic and strong. He was a great friend and a great teammate. I will forward to you the funeral arrangements once they are known.

Fwd: Berry Brother Jimmy Fletcher has passed.

I'm sure most of you have received the news in the email from Tom Butler copied below:

Hello Brothers and Sisters of Berry,

I wanted to forward this email from Dale as it is so well done.  Jimmy passed away last night.  I spoke with Bob Williams just now and the funeral arrangements have not been made but they think it might be Monday.  I will let you know once we know for sure.

Each of us have our own thoughts and memories of Berry and our time with Jimmy.  I always thought deep inside he knew things so profound that none of us could even imagine.  I still believe that.  God bless Jimmy and we are all thankful that we knew him.  TB

Subject: RE: Berry Brother Jimmy Fletcher

Tom,

It may seem odd, but many of us who visited Jimmy along with his friends, especially Sandy-his sitter, many of his Berry Brothers- the likes of John Shahan and Coach Shelton, Kevin (Lamar’s son) and Jimmy’s employee friends, all had a good time chatting about pleasant day remembrances- encouraging each other ‘till the late night hour, and Jimmy was able to hear it all.

While I was at my duck pond, with the beautiful clear moonlit night and a strong chill in the air, I called Lamar to find out that Jimmy had passed “Ad Astra” around 11:45 P.M., Thursday eve.

He was truly a great man! He was a mountain of inspiration to us all!

“Say not in grief ‘he is no more’ but live in thankfulness that he was.”

“That is why death itself is not the greatest tragedy.

The greatest tragedy is when we have banished God

and are buried by our own questions. Christianity will

never be banished to the grave because it follows a Savior

who knows the way out; that is the truth and it is worth celebrating.”

                                           -Ravi Zacharias

It will be another good time when many folks will gather at Jimmy’s funeral-celebration- soon to be announced.

This will be a tough decade for a number of us Merry Band of Berry Brothers & Sisters. We need to continue and encourage our visitations with each other as much as possible.

You’re Berry Brother,

 Dale

Tom Butler forwarded this email from Chris Waters at the Alumni Office:

Tom,

I meant to have also sent this link to you that the dairy guys directed me to.  This is a link to their October Ruminant Report (the dairy’s monthly e-newsletter).  On page 3 of the Oct. issue is an article about the dairy in the 70’s and 80’s that some in the Breakfast Club might be potentially interested in, especially if the group ever wants to tour the current dairy with Tim.

Two of the students in the Golden Days photo are 1970's Academy alumni; Reed Biggers and Barry Geisel.

Tom Butler's email regarding the February 13th meeting:

Hey Brothers and Sisters,

I am letting you know about the meeting Sat.  We will have breakfast at The Landmark Restaurant at about 8 but many of us will get there at 7:30 or so.  We will have it in the big room and then remain there to have the meeting at 9.  We will be on a tight schedule but we will enjoy the great company and the work we are doing.  We've come a long way.  We will discuss the future meetings then.  I have asked Jennifer Dickey to come but have not heard back from her at this writing.  Attached you will find the agenda for the meeting and we will add Jennifer if she comes.  Hope all of you are well and feeling great.  I don't think the weather will mess us up this weekend.  We will see you then.  TB

Copied from an email from David Woody

As most all of you know, we had some great news this week from Terry Rolan who finally was able to locate Doug Toineeta and visited with him in Cherokee, NC. Doug was the salutatorian of the class of 1964. You can bet our whole class is really looking forward to visiting with him at a reunion very soon.

On a sad note, I have to tell you that we lost a “Berry Brother” from the class of 1964. James Hunicutt "Jimmy" Rudesal passed away Feb. 15, 2009 in Milledgeville, Baldwin County, Georgia. I contacted his step son’s wife from Barnesville, Georgia and she stated that Jimmy died of lung & liver cancer at a Baldwin County Georgia healthcare facility. I remember Jimmy as a very kind and giving person who loved to sing in the choir. He was a Navy veteran and he was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Milner, Georgia where he served as a Deacon, taught Sunday school, and was a Minister of Music. He was a loving Husband and Father.

Here is a link to a memorial for Jimmy Rudesal.

Here is wishing each of you a very Merry Christmas & fantastic holiday season with you family and friends.

Wish you only the very BEST,

David Woody

In case you missed Mountain Day, the Breakfast Club had a tent for the first year. We reconnected with quite a few HS/ Academy alumni and received contact information. We also passed out brochures about the Breakfast Club to many alumni and students. If you would like to reconnect, please visit the Contact Us page on this website and fill out the form. A special thanks to Frank Adams and all others involved with the tent and table.
